December 1: the eternal plan of God

THE ETERNAL DRAWING OF GOD

The wonderful project of creation, conceived and desired by God, was modified by man's attitude when, using his freedom freely, he preferred a project of his own.
The Bible, in Genesis, describes this rebellion against God in what we call original sin. Since then, evil has spread, humanity has fallen into confusion and disintegration (cf. Gn 6,11). "Because of one man, the condemnation was poured out on all men ... because of the disobedience of one man, all were made sinners" (Rom 5,18s). Therefore every man begins his existence in a polluted context; he comes to the world devoid of sanctifying grace, incapable of loving God above all things, inclined to prefer material goods. Thus his freedom, weakened and conditioned by the environment that has become opaque towards God, can sooner or later lead to serious sins, moving towards perdition. But God goes in search of man, makes him aware of sin; promises him victory over evil (= the serpent); he continues to intervene by saving Noah from the flood (cf Gn chapters 6-8) and entrusting Abraham and his descendants with a promise of blessing for all nations (cf Gn 12,1-3). Furthermore, God preserves from the evil of the original sin a creature who will be born immaculate, that is, not contaminated by sin, to whom He will make the proposal to collaborate in a mysterious way to save humanity.

PRAYER

O Mary, you attract heaven and behold the Father gives you his Word so that you may be its Mother,
and the Spirit of love covers you with its shadow. The Three come to you; it is all the sky that opens and lowers down to you. I adore the mystery of this God who incarnates in you, Virgin Mother.

O Mother of the Word, tell me your mystery after the Incarnation of the Lord; as you passed on earth all buried in adoration. Always keep me in a divine embrace. May I carry within me the imprint of this God of love.

(Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity)
