JANUARY 10TH BLESSED ANNA DEGLI ANGELI MONTEAGUDO

PRAYER

O God, who made Blessed Anna an apostle and counselor of souls through an intense life of contemplation: let us, after having talked with you for a long time, then we can then talk about you to our brothers.

For Christ our Lord.

Ana Monteagudo Ponce de León, in religion Anna degli Angeli (Arequipa, 26 July 1602 - Arequipa, 10 January 1686), was a Peruvian religious, prioress of the Dominican monastery of Santa Catalina de Sena. She was proclaimed blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1985.
Born in Peru to a Spanish couple, she was educated by the Dominicans in the cloistered monastery of Santa Catalina de Sena in Arequipa and, against the wishes of her parents, she embraced religious life in the same monastery.

She was a sacristan and then a novice teacher. Finally she was elected prioress and conducted a work of severe reform.

He had a reputation for mystical gifts, especially visions of purging souls. He died after a long illness in 1686.

The cause was introduced on June 13, 1917 and on May 23, 1975 Pope Paul VI authorized the promulgation of the decree on the heroic virtues of Anna of the Angels, which became venerable.

Pope John Paul II proclaimed her blessed in Arequipa on February 2, 1985, during her apostolic journey to Latin America.

The body of the blessed rests in the church of the monastery of Santa Catalina de Sena in Arequipa.

His praise is read in the Roman Martyrology on January 10.
