11 June San Barnaba Apostolo. Prayer to the Saint

1. Glorious St. Barnabas, who for your particular kindness of heart, gentleness of speech, affability of trait, combined with an admirable elegance of form and majesty of presence, you deserved to be among the disciples of Jesus Christ chosen to work with him the evangelization of peoples; You who were called by the Apostles "son of consolation" and attached to their college, because a mysterious voice commanded them to segregate you from the multitude of believers; You who were destined together with Saul to convert the Gentiles, and then you were by the Gentiles themselves so esteemed as to be mistaken for Jupiter, the first of their gods; Obtain for us all the grace of always making our delight in prayer to God and sweetness towards one's neighbor, so that we never make use of our personal gifts than to wait with greater commitment to the sanctification of our soul. Glory.

2. Glorious St. Barnabas, who stripped of all earthly good, which you spontaneously brought to the Apostles' feet in the first days of their preaching; You who were filled by the Holy Spirit with his most particular gifts, for which extraordinarily powerful in works and words you always brought great fruit from your apostolic labors; You who would help the Christians of Jerusalem threatened by terrible famine, with the alms for your care collected in the city of Antioch; Obtain for us all the grace to always work effectively for the benefit of our brothers, in order to assure God of that special mercy which is promised to the merciful faithful, and that particular glory which is prepared for all those who instruct others in justice. Glory.

3. Glorious St. Barnabas, who after suffering for the cause of Jesus Christ all kinds of persecutions, especially in Iconium and Listra, and having actually shed your blood on that same island of Cyprus which had been particularly benefited by you with the your last preaching; You who were individually glorified in the tomb itself, when on the sunset of the fifth century your body was discovered still intact and by the emperor Zeno honored with precious custody that Gospel of St. Matthew that already written by your hands, was found deposited on your chest ; Obtain for us all the grace of always suffering with resignation all the difficulties of this earth in order to obtain with safety the eternal joy of heaven. Glory.
