APRIL 23 SAN GIORGIO MARTIRE

George, whose tomb is in Lidda (Lod) near Tel Aviv in Israel, was honored, at least from the fourth century, as a martyr of Christ in every part of the Church. Popular tradition depicts him as the knight facing the dragon, a symbol of the intrepid faith that triumphs over the strength of the evil one. His memory is celebrated on this day also in the Syrian and Byzantine rites. (Roman Missal)

PRAYER TO SAN GIORGIO MARTIRE

O glorious St. George who sacrificed blood and blood
life to confess the faith, get us from the Lord
grace to be willing to suffer for his sake
I face and any torment, rather than losing one
of Christian virtues; do that, in the absence of executioners,
we know how to mortify ourselves by seeking it
penance exercises, so that by dying voluntarily
to the world and to ourselves, we deserve to live to God in
this life, to then be with God in all the centuries.
Amen.

Pater, Ave, Glory

PRAYER TO SAN GIORGIO

O San Giorgio, I turn to you
to ask for your protection.
Remember me, you who have always helped
and consoled anyone who invoked you
in their needs.
Animated by great confidence
and from the certainty of not praying in vain,
I appeal to you who are so rich in merit
before the Lord: make my plea
come, through your intercession,
to the Father of mercy.
Bless my work and my family;
keep the dangers of soul and body away.
And do that, in the hour of pain and trial,
I can remain strong in faith
and in the love of God
