3 things you need to know about Purgatory

1. It is a grace of God. Meditate on the severe words of St. John, which does not enter Paradise whatsoever: Nihil; therefore, the soul, which expires with a sin, even if only venial, not being able to reach Heaven, because it is stained, and since there are no more Sacraments to give it back, should it fall into Hell? ... God's goodness created Purgatory where one suffers it is true, but sins are paid for in order to reach Heaven. Thank God.

2. His indescribable penalties. The Holy Spirit attests that it is horrible, that is terrible, to fall into the hands of God; God's justice is infinite. St. Augustine writes that the same fire of Hell torments the damned, and purifies the elect in Purgatory. St. Thomas says it is more tormenting than any pain suffered down here. All the pains of the earth would be loved, rather than a single day in Purgatory, writes St. How about you who commit so many venial sins?

3. We can all go through Purgatory. How can we not feel compassion for the poor souls in purgatory who, moaning, ask us for a little suffrage? Among so many pains, each one exclaims: Have mercy on me! I ask you at least a prayer, an alms, a mortification; why are you denying it to me? But a few years from now, you too will fall into this furnace, you will feel my pains ... Remember that the same measure used with others will be used with you.

PRACTICE. - Recite the third part of the Rosary, or at least three De profundis in suffrage of souls.
