3 things to do to have a relationship with God

3 things to do to have a relationship with God: start practicing what you learn. To deepen our relationship with Christ, you need to start applying what you learn. It is one thing to listen or to know, but it is another thing to actually do. Let's take a look at the scriptures to see what they have to say about being doers of the Word.

“But don't just listen to God's word. You have to do what it says. Otherwise, you're just fooling yourself. Because if you listen to the word and don't obey, it's like looking at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, you go away and you forget what you look like. But if you carefully observe the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. - James 2: 22-25 NLT

Have an ongoing relationship with God

“Anyone who hears my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Even if the rain comes in streams and the floodwaters rise and the wind beats against that house, it won't collapse because it's built on a bed of rock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and the floods come and the winds hit that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. " - Matthew 8: 24-27 NLT
So what is the Lord telling you to do? Are you listening and applying His Word, or is it in one ear and out of the other? As we see in the scriptures, many people hear and know but few actually do, and the reward comes when we apply what the Lord teaches us and tells us to do.

Pray to God every day for graces

3 things to do to have a relationship with God: take care of the areas where god calls you to grow. One of the best ways we can grow in our relationship with Christ is by addressing the areas where His work is done. I know for myself personally, the Lord is calling me to grow in my prayer life: to move from doubtful prayers to bold and faithful prayers. I started dealing with this area by purchasing my annual Val Marie Prayer Journal. I also plan to read more prayer books this year and put them into practice. Your action steps will look different based on the areas God calls you to heal, but the most important thing is that you take action while He is cultivating you in these areas.

Having a relationship with God

Get into the practice of fasting
Fasting has been an absolute turning point in my relationship with God. Since I got into the habit of fasting regularly, I have seen more than one breakthrough happen in my personal walk with God. Spiritual gifts have been discovered, relationships are have been restored and revelation has been granted, and so many other blessings and discoveries have occurred that I personally believe would not have happened if I had not started to fast and pray intentionally. Fasting is a great way to establish a deeper connection with God.

If you're just starting out with fasting, it's okay to relax. Ask God how and when he would like me to fast. Look for different types of fasting. Write down your goals and pray for what they want you to give up. Remember that fasting is not meant to be easy, but to refine. It feels like giving up something you like to get more and become more like Him.
