5 ways to listen to the voice of God

Does God Really Talk to Us? Can we really hear the voice of God? We often doubt that we listen to God until we learn to recognize the ways God speaks to us.

Wouldn't it be nice if God decided to use billboards to talk to us? Just think that we could drive down the road and God would simply choose one of the billions of billboards to get our attention. We would be there with a message traced directly by God. Pretty nice, huh?

I often thought that method would definitely work for me! On the other hand, it could use something more subtle. Like a light rap on the side of the head every time we move away from the path. Yes, there is a thought. God hits people every time they don't listen. I'm afraid we would all be chaos from all that rap "activity".

Listening to the voice of God is a learned skill
Of course, you could be one of the lucky ones like Moses, who was walking up the mountain, thinking about his business, when he tripped over the burning bush. Most of us don't have this type of dating, so we are looking for skills to help us listen to God.

Common ways in which God speaks to us
His word: to truly "hear" from God, we need to know a few things about God's character. We need to develop an understanding of who God is and how he does things. Fortunately for us, all of this information is available in the Bible. The book provides many details on how you can expect God to react, what kind of expectations he has for us and, in particular, how he expects us to treat other people. It is actually a good book, given its age.
Other people: many times, God will use other people to try to connect us. It is possible that God uses anyone at any time, but I find more messages from people who practice Christians than from practitioners.
Our circumstances: Sometimes the only way God can teach us anything is to allow the circumstances of our lives to guide us to and through what we need to discover. Author Joyce Meyer says, "There is no drive-through shift."
The Still Small Voice: most of the time, God uses a tiny voice within us to let us know when we are not on the right track. Some people call it "the voice of peace". Whenever we are contemplating something and have no peace about it, it is a good idea to stop and look carefully at the options. There is a reason you don't feel at peace.
The real voice: sometimes we are able to "hear" something in our spirit that sounds like a real audible voice. Or suddenly, you just know you've heard something. Pay attention to those occasions because it is very likely that God is trying to tell you something.
