For the Pope, sexual pleasure is a gift from God

"Sexual pleasure is a divine gift." Pope Francis continues his catechesis on the deadly sins and speaks of lust as the second "demon" that lurks in the human heart. This vice refers to greed towards another person, a poisonous bond that is often created between human beings, particularly in the field of sexuality.

Papa Francesco

The Pope recalls that the Bible does not condemn the sexual instinct, even if the sexual dimension and the love that involves humanity are not without dangers.

The ifalling in love, explains Francesco, is one of the most surprising experiences of life. Many songs on the radio talk about this theme: love that light up, loves always sought but never achieved, loves as joyful as they are tormenting. And no one can explain because we fall in love. In many ways, love is unconditional, for no apparent reason.

The Pope explains why lust distorts falling in love

But this love can be distorted by demon of lust, a hateful vice that destroys human relationships. You just need to look at the daily news to see this. How many relationships that started well have then turned into toxic relationships, based on possession of the other.

the heart

The Pope explains that these are relationships in which chastity is missing, which should not be confused with sexual abstinence, but is rather a virtue that implies never possessing another. Loving means respecting the other, seek his happiness, cultivateempathy for his feelings and appreciate the beauty of his body, his psychology and his soul, which do not belong to us.

La lustinstead, he steals, destroys, consumes quickly, he doesn't want to listen to the other but only to satisfy his own desires and pleasures. The lustful only seeks shortcuts, without understanding that love requires time and patience.

Another reason why the lust is hateful it's because sexuality, among all human pleasures, has a powerful voice. It involves all the senses, resides both in the body that in the psyche and that's wonderful. However, if he doesn't come controlled with patience, if it is not inserted into a relationship and a story in which two individuals transform it into a dance of love, it becomes one chain which deprives the individual of his freedom.

For the Pope, winning the battle against lust can be a lifelong challenge. However, the prize of this battle is the most important of all, because preserve the beauty that God created when he imagined the love between man and woman. This love is not intended to use the other, but to love.
