Gospel of February 6, 2021 with the comment of Pope Francis

READING OF THE DAY
From the letter to the Jews
Heb 13,15-17.20-21

Brothers, through Jesus we continually offer God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

Do not forget the beneficence and the communion of goods, because the Lord is pleased with these sacrifices.

Obey your leaders and be subject to them, because they watch over you and must be accountable, so that they do it with joy and not complaining. This would not be of any benefit to you.

May the God of peace, who brought back the great Shepherd of the sheep from the dead, by virtue of the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, make you perfect in every good, so that you may do his will, working in you what it is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ, to whom glory be for ever and ever. Amen.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Mark
Mc 6,30-34

At that time, the apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and what they had taught. And he said to them, "Come aside, you alone, to a deserted place, and rest a little." In fact, there were many who came and went and did not even have time to eat.

Then they went in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. But many saw them leave and understood, and from all the cities they ran there on foot and preceded them.

When he got out of the boat, he saw a great crowd, he felt sorry for them, because they were like sheep that have no shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
The gaze of Jesus is not a neutral gaze or, worse, cold and detached, because Jesus always looks with the eyes of the heart. And his heart is so tender and full of compassion, that he knows how to grasp even the most hidden needs of people. Moreover, his compassion does not simply indicate an emotional reaction in the face of a situation of discomfort of the people, but it is much more: it is the attitude and the predisposition of God towards man and his history. Jesus appears as the realization of God's concern and concern for his people. (Angelus of 22 July 2018)
