Gospel of March 3, 2021 and the words of the pope

Gospel of March 3, 2021: Jesus, after listening to James and John, does not get upset, does not get angry. His patience is truly infinite. (…) And he replies: «You do not know what you are asking». He excuses them, in a certain sense, but at the same time he accuses them: "You do not realize that you are off track". (…) Dear Brothers, we all love Jesus, we all want to follow him, but we must always be vigilant to stay on his path. Because with the feet, with the body we can be with him, but our heart can be far away, and lead us astray. (Homily for the Consistory for the Creation of Cardinals 28 November 2020)

From the book of the prophet Jeremiah Jer 18,18-20 [The enemies of the prophet] said: «Come and let us plot snares against Jeremiah, because the law will not fail the priests, neither counsel to the wise nor the word to the prophets. Come, let's hinder him when he speaks, let's not pay attention to all his words ».

Listen to me, Lord,
and hear the voice of someone who is in dispute with me.
Is it bad for good?
They dug a pit for me.
Remember when I introduced myself to you,
to speak in their favor,
to turn away your anger from them.

Gospel of March 3, 2021: From the Gospel according to Matthew Mt 20,17-28 At that time, while he was going up to Jerusalem, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside and along the way he said to them: "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem andl Son of man it will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes; they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the pagans to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will rise again ». Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him with her sons and bowed down to ask him something. He said to her, "What do you want?" He replied, "Tell him that these two sons of mine sit one on your right and one on your left in your kingdom."

Jesus answered: You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am about to drink? ». They tell him: "We can." And he said to them, 'My cup you will drink; but to sit on my right and on my left is not up to me to grant it: it is for those for whom my Father has prepared it ». The other ten, having heard, were indignant with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said: “You know that the rulers of the nations rule over them and the rulers oppress them. It will not be like this among you; but whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant and whoever wants to be first among you will be your slave. Like the Son of man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many ”.
