Gospel of March 6, 2021

Gospel of March 6: The mercy of the father is overflowing, unconditional, and manifests itself even before the son speaks. Of course, the son knows he has made a mistake and recognizes it: "I have sinned ... treat me as one of your hired workers." But these words dissolve in front of the father's forgiveness. The hug and kiss of his father make him understand that he has always been considered a son, despite everything. This teaching of Jesus is important: our condition as children of God is the fruit of the love of the Father's heart; it does not depend on our merits or our actions, and therefore no one can take it away from us, not even the devil! (Pope Francis General Audience May 11, 2016)

From the book of prophet Micah Mi 7,14-15.18-20 Feed your people with your rod, the flock of your inheritance, which stands alone in the forest among fertile fields; let them graze in Bashan and Gilead as in ancient times. As when you came out of the land of Egypt, show us wondrous things. Which god is like you, who takes away the iniquity and forgives the sin of the rest of his inheritance? He does not keep his anger forever, but is pleased to show his love. He will return to have mercy on us, he will trample on our sins. You will throw all our sins to the bottom of the sea. You will keep your faithfulness to Jacob, your love to Abraham, as you swore to our fathers from ancient times.

Gospel of March 6th

Second Gospel Luke Lk 15,1: 3.11-32-XNUMX At that time, all tax collectors and sinners approached him to listen to him. The Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying: "This one welcomes sinners and eats with them." And he told them this parable: “A man had two sons. The younger of the two said to his father: Father, give me my share of the estate. And he divided his possessions among them. A few days later, the youngest son, collected all his belongings, left for a distant country and there he squandered his wealth by living in a dissolute way.

When he had spent everything, a great famine struck that country and he began to find himself in need. Then he went to serve one of the inhabitants of that region, who sent him to his fields to feed swine. He would have liked to fill himself with the carob pods the pigs ate; but no one gave him anything. Then he came to himself and said: How many of my father's hired workers have bread in abundance and I am dying of hunger here! I will get up, go to my father and tell him: Father, I have sinned towards Heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Treat me like one of your employees. He got up and went back to his father.

Today's Gospel according to Luke

Gospel of March 6: When he was still far away, his father saw him, had compassion, ran to meet him, fell on his neck and kissed him. The son said to him: Father, I have sinned towards Heaven and in front of you; I am no longer worthy of being called your son. But the father said to the servants: Hurry, bring the most beautiful dress here and make him wear it, put the ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Take the fatted calf, kill it, let's eat and celebrate, because this son of mine was dead and came back to life, he was lost and was found. And they began partying. The eldest son was in the fields. On his return, when he was close to home, he heard music and dancing; he called one of the servants and asked him what all this was. He replied: Your brother is here and your father had the fatted calf killed, because he got it back safe and sound.

He was indignant, and did not want to enter. His father then went out to beg him. But he answered his father: Behold, I have served you for so many years and I have never disobeyed your command, and you have never given me a kid to celebrate with my friends. But now that this son of yours has returned, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him. His father answered him: Son, you are always with me and everything that is mine is yours; but it was necessary to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come back to life, he was lost and has been found ».
