Gospel of the day March 22, 2021, the comment

Gospel of March 22, 2021: This is a line powerful pronounced by Jesus. The judging and condemning Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman who had apparently been caught "in the very act of committing adultery." Was she a sinner? Yes, indeed it was. But this story isn't so much about whether or not she was a sinner. It concerned the attitude that Jesus had towards sinners compared to that held by the hypocritical, judging and condemning Pharisees. "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8: 7

First of all, let's take a look at this womens. She was humiliated. She had committed sin, had been captured and had been publicly presented to all as a sinner. How did he react? He did not resist. It remained negative. She didn't get angry. He did not react. Instead, she stood there humiliated, awaiting his punishment with a pained heart.

Jesus expresses forgiveness on sin

The humiliation of one's sins is a powerful experience that has the potential to produce true repentance. When we meet someone who has manifestly sinned and is humbled by his sin, we must treat him with compassion. Why? Because the dignity of the person always replaces his sin. Each person is made in the image and likeness of God and each person deserves ours compassion. If one is stubborn and refuses to see one's sin (as in the case of the Pharisees), then an act of holy rebuke is needed to help them repent. But when they experience pain and, in this case, the added experience of humiliation, then they are ready for compassion.

Affirming: “Which one of you is without sin let him be the first to throw the stone at her ”, Jesus does not justify his sin. Rather, it is making it clear that no one has the right to sentence. Nobody. Not even the religious leaders. This is a difficult teaching for many in our world today to live.

Reflect today on whether you are more like the Pharisees or Jesus

It is normal that the titles of the medium they present to us in an almost compulsive way the most sensational sins of others. We are constantly tempted to be outraged by what this or that person has done. We easily shake our heads, condemn them and treat them as if they were dirt. Indeed, it seems that many people today see it as their duty to act as "watchdogs" against any sin they can unearth on others.

Reflect today on the fact that you are more like Pharisees or to Jesus. Would you have stayed there in the crowd wishing this humiliated woman would be stoned? How about today? When you hear about the manifest sins of others, do you find yourself condemning them? Or do you hope they will be shown mercy? Try to imitate the compassionate heart of our divine Lord; and when your time of judgment comes, you too will be shown an abundance of compassion.

Prayer: My merciful Lord, you see beyond our sin and look to the heart. Your love is infinite and majestic. I thank you for the compassion you have shown me and I pray that I can always imitate the same compassion for every sinner around me. Jesus I believe in you.

Gospel of March 22, 2021: from the word written by St. John

From the Gospel according to John 8,1: 11-XNUMX At that time, Jesus set out for the Mount of Olives. But in the morning he went back to the temple and all the people went to him. And he sat down and began to teach them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought him a woman caught in adultery, placed her in the middle and said to him: «Master, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. Now Moses, in the Law, has commanded us to stone women like this. What do you think?". They said this to test him and to have reason to accuse him.
But Jesus bent down and began to write with his finger on the ground. However, as they insisted on questioning him, he stood up and said to them, "Who among you is sinless, throw the stone first against her." And, bending down again, he wrote on the ground. Those who heard it went away one by one, beginning with the older ones.
They left him alone, and the woman was in the middle. Then Jesus got up and said to her, «Woman, where am I? Has no one condemned you? » And she said, "Nobody, Lord." And Jesus said: «I also do not condemn you; go and from now on don't sin anymore ».
