Statue of the Madonna remains intact after the hurricane

The US state of Kentucky suffered heavy losses due to a tornado between Friday 10 and Saturday 11 December. At least 64 people have died, including children, and 104 are missing. The terrible phenomenon has even destroyed homes and left debris scattered across several cities.

In the midst of the disaster that struck the state, the city of Dawson Springs recorded an impressive episode: the statue of the Madonna carrying the Child Jesus, which stands in front of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection, remained intact. The tornado, however, managed to destroy part of the roof and windows of the building.

In an interview with the Catholic news agency (CNA), the communications director of the diocese of Owensboro, Tina Casey, said that "the church will probably be totally lost."

The Bishop of Owensboro, William Medley, asked for prayers and donations for the victims and said that Pope Francis is united in praying for them. "" Although no one but the Lord can heal the broken hearts of those who have lost loved ones, I am grateful for the support we have received from across the country and the world, "the bishop commented to CNA.
