Louis and Zelie Martin they are a married couple of French veterans, famous for being the parents of Saint Therese of Lisieux. Their story is a living example of faith, love and sacrifice.

Louis Martin, born on 22 August 1823 in Bordeaux, he was a watchmaker by profession, while Marie-Azélie Guérin, known as Zélie, was a Creole born on 23 December 1831 in Alençon. They met in Alençon in 1858 and they married just three months later.

The couple had nine children, but only five survived to adulthood, the most famous being their daughter Teresa. Louis and Zelie were loving and devoted parents, who tried to educate their children in faith and virtue. Although their life was characterized by difficulties and trials, they managed to maintain a strong spirituality and a deep family bond.

The Martin family regularly attended Sunday mass and always prayed together. Louis and Zelie taught their children the importance of prayer and love of God. They were also known for their spirit of charity and they helped others, especially the poor and needy.

Louis was a watchmaker talented and successful in his business. Zelie, on the other hand, dedicated herself to her passion for fashion by opening a small business lace business.

Unfortunately, their family joy was overshadowed by numerous tragedies, including the death of three of their children. Despite everything, they never gave in to desperation and sadness, but always continued to trust in God.

In 1877, Zelie was diagnosed with a severe breast cancer and died at just 46 years old. Despite his pain, Louis remained faithful to his commitment to spreading God's love throughout the world and continued to be a loving father to his children.

In 1888 asked to enter the Carmel of Lisieux as a Carmelite Tertiary, but his request was rejected. He died in the same house where he was born on 29 July 1894.

In 2008, were beatified together as a couple. This recognition is a testament to their love and faith that has continued to inspire many people over the years. Louis and Zélie Martin are an example of how a couple can transform their daily life into a spiritual path.
