Blessed Claudio Granzotto, Saint of the day for 6 September

(23 August 1900 - 15 August 1947)

History of Blessed Claudio Granzotto
Born in Santa Lucia del Piave near Venice, Claudio was the youngest of nine children and was used to hard work in the fields. At the age of 9, he lost his father. Six years later he was drafted into the Italian army, where he served for more than three years.

His artistic skills, especially sculptural, led him to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, which awarded him a diploma with full marks in 1929. Already then he was particularly interested in religious art. When Claudius entered among the Friars Minor four years later, his parish priest wrote: "The Order receives not only an artist but a saint". Prayer, charity to the poor and artistic work characterized his life interrupted by a brain tumor. He died on the feast of the Assumption, on August 15, 1947, and was beatified in 1994. His liturgical feast is on March 23.

Reflection
Claudio has become such an excellent sculptor that his work continues to turn people towards God. No stranger to adversity, he bravely faced every obstacle, reflecting the generosity, faith and joy he learned from Francis of Assisi. .
