Cancer was about to kill grandfather, granddaughter runs 3km a day to raise money.

Emily's grandfather falls ill with prostate cancer, surprising the girl's reaction in his honor.

Emily Talman's grandfather fell ill with prostate cancer in 2019. An evil with which he struggled for almost a year and which fortunately resolved itself better after surgery and the relative removal of the prostate.

Emily, her 12-year-old granddaughter, lived that experience very badly, she was terrified of losing her beloved grandfather. When her health improved and her grandfather was declared out of danger, she Emily thought she had to do something. She got inspired by looking at the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain prizes. Hence the idea of running for charity.

He started on the 8th of November last year and every day for a whole year he ran 3 km, in all weather conditions. It wasn't easy but Emily thought about her grandfather's words that he was constantly prodding her to never give up.

Emily and her grandfather recovered from cancer

This amazing 12-year-old managed to raise £8.000 for a charity and said:

“My grandfather always told me: 'Never give up, never give up' and that's what I said to myself during my challenge.

"I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to still have him in my life."

Emily felt deep down that she had to do something to help people affected by this evil and their families, precisely because of the suffering she experienced firsthand. Although it was not easy to reach this goal, she did not lack courage because she thought of all those who had lost their loved ones.

The student who has three sisters also stated :

“I always think of people who can't be with their grandpa, dad, uncle or brother because of prostate cancer.”

There are kids like Emily who fight for a just cause and do it with courage and determination and I would add that we could all do something for others in our own small way. There are always many challenges in life, but when health and the relative fear of losing a loved one are involved, then we should feel even more emotionally charged. So, the watchword is….we always donate, even if it's just our free time.
