Vaccine skeptic cardinal is positive for Covid-19

The American cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, skeptical of vaccines, tested positive for coronavirus and is under medical treatment.

"Praised be Jesus Christ“, Wrote the cardinal on Twitter. “I would like to inform you that I recently tested positive for the Covid-19 cirus. Thank God I am resting comfortably and receiving excellent medical care. Please pray for me as I begin my healing. We believe in Divine providence. God bless you".

Over the past few hours the news had spread on social networks that the cardinal was positive for Covid but the cardinal's sister had denied it.

Burke was prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and still resides in Rome. Ultra-conservative, is among the leaders of the curial opposition to Pope Francis, as well as being an enthusiastic supporter of the former US president Donald Trump and a critic of the president Joe Biden.

In a meeting in Rome in May 2020, reported by the traditionalist site Lifesite news, expressed all his doubts regarding the anti-Covid vaccine: "It must be clear that the same vaccination cannot be imposed, in a totalitarian way, on citizens", stated Burke, who also reported the opinion of some according to whom " a kind of microchip that must be placed under the skin of each person, so that at any time it can be controlled by the state regarding health and other issues that we can only imagine ”.

However, "it must be clear that it is never morally justified to develop vaccines through the use of cell lines of aborted fetuses," a position denied last year by the congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
