Catechesis of pre-baptismal rites

Catechesis of pre-baptismal rites

Every day we gave a talk on moral issues while reading or the deeds of the patriarchs or the teachings of the Proverbs, because, modeled and taught by them, you got used to entering the ways of the ancients, to walk their way and obey the divine oracles so that renewed by baptism you kept that conduct that befits the baptized.
Now the time has come to speak of the mysteries and to explain the nature of the sacraments. If I had done this before baptism to the uninitiated, I would have rather betrayed than explained this doctrine. It should also be added that the light of the mysteries is more penetrating if it strikes by surprise, rather than arriving after the first signs of some brief preliminary discussion.
So open your ears and enjoy the harmonies of eternal life infused in you by the gift of the sacraments. We meant it, when celebrating the mystery of the opening of the ears we said to you: "Effatà, that is: Open up!" (Mk 7, 34), so that each of you, who was about to approach grace, understood what he would be questioned about and remembered what he should answer. In the Gospel, as we read, Christ celebrated this mystery when he treated the deaf-mute.
Subsequently, the Saint of Saints was opened wide, you entered the regeneration shrine. Remember what has been asked of you, reflect on what you have placed. You have renounced the devil and his works, the world, his debauchery and his pleasures. Your word is kept not in a grave of the dead, but in the book of the living. At the source you saw the Levite, you saw the priest, you saw the high priest. Pay no attention to the outside of the person, but to the charism of the sacred ministry. It is in the presence of angels that you spoke, as it is written: The lips of the priest must guard science and education is sought from his mouth, because he is the angel of the Lord of armies (cf. Ml 2, 7). You can't go wrong, you can't deny it. An angel who announces the kingdom of Christ, he who announces eternal life. You have to judge it not by appearance, but by function. Reflect on what he has given you, ponder the importance of his task, recognize what he does.
Entered therefore to see your adversary, to whom you are supposed to have renounced with your mouth, you turn to the east: because whoever renounces the devil turns to Christ, looks him straight in the face.
