There is a link between Ferrero Rocher and Our Lady of Lourdes, did you know?

The chocolate Ferrero Rocher is one of the most famous in the world, but did you know that behind the brand (and its design itself) there is a beautiful meaning that refers to an appearance of the Virgin Mary?

Ferrero Rocher chocolate is wrapped, as we know, in a layer of toasted hazelnuts and a wafer filled with cream. And there is a reason.

Michele ferrero, an Italian businessman and master chocolatier, was a great devout Catholic. It is said that the owner of the guild behind Nutella, Kinder and Tic-Tac made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes every year.

So when the industrialist launched the product in 1982, he called it "Rocher", which means "cave" in French, referring to Rock of Massabielle, the cave where the Virgin appeared to the young woman Bernadette. The rocky consistency of the chocolate also harks back to then.

At the event celebrating the company's 50th anniversary, Michele Ferrero stated that “Ferrero's success is due to Our Lady of Lourdes. Without it there is little we can do ”. In 2018, the company achieved a record sales, achieving a profit of approximately 11,6 billion US dollars.

It is said that in each of the chocolate production centers there is an image of the Virgin Mary. Also, Ferrero brings his boss and workers in every year pilgrimage to Lourdes.

The entrepreneur passed away on February 14, 2015 at the age of 89.
