Who is your Guardian Angel and what does he do: 10 things to know

Guardian angels exist.
The Gospel affirms it, the Scriptures support it in countless examples and episodes. The Catechism teaches us from an early age to feel this presence at our side and to trust in it.

Angels have always existed.
Our Guardian Angel is not created with us at the time of our birth. He has always existed, from the moment when God created all the angels. It was a single episode, a single instant in which the divine will generated all the angels, by the thousands. Thereafter, God no longer created other angels.

There is an angelic hierarchy and not all angels are destined to become guardian angels.
Even the angels differ from each other in tasks and above all for their position in heaven with respect to God. Some angels in particular are selected to take a test and, if they pass it, they are enabled to the role of Guardian Angels. When a boy or girl is born, one of these angels is chosen to stand by his side until death and beyond.

We all have one
... and only one. We can't sell it, we can't share it with anyone. Also in this regard, the Scriptures are rich in references and citations.

Our Angel guides us on the path to Heaven
Our Angel cannot force us to follow the path of good. He cannot decide for us, impose choices on us. We are and remain free. But its role is precious, important. As a silent and trusted adviser he remains by our side, trying to advise us for the best, to suggest the right way to follow, to obtain salvation, to deserve Heaven, above all to be good people and good Christians.

Our Angel never abandons us
In this life and the next, we will know that we can count on him, on this invisible and special friend who never leaves us alone.

Our Angel is not the spirit of a dead person
Although it is nice to think that when someone we love dies, he becomes an Angel, and as such he comes back to be at our side, unfortunately it is not so. Our Guardian Angel cannot be anyone we met in life, nor a member of our family who died prematurely. He has always existed, he is a spiritual presence generated directly by God. This does not mean that you love us less! Let us remember that God is first of all Love.

Our Guardian Angel has no name
... or, if it does, it is not our job to establish it. In the Scriptures the names of some angels are mentioned, such as Michele, Raffale, Gabriele. Any other name attributed to these celestial creatures is not documented or confirmed by the Church, and as such it is inappropriate to claim to use it for our Angel, especially using, to determine it, month of birth or other imaginative methods.

Our Angel fights alongside us with all his strength.
We must not think we have a tender plump putto playing the harp by our side. Our Angel is a warrior, a strong and courageous fighter, who stands by our side in every battle of life and protects us when we are too fragile to do it alone.

Let us remember that God is first of all Love
Our Guardian Angel is also our personal messenger, in charge of bringing our messages to God, and vice versa.
It is to angels that God turns to communicate with us. Their job is to make us understand his word and direct us in the right direction. As we have previously said, his presence is generated directly by God. This does not mean that God loves us less, God is first of all Love.
