How to share your faith

Many Christians are intimidated by the idea of sharing their faith. Jesus never wanted the Great Commission to be an impossible burden. God wanted us to be witnesses of Jesus Christ through the natural outcome of life for him.

How to share your faith in God with others
We humans complicate evangelization. We think we need to complete a 10 week apologetics course before we start. God designed a simple evangelization program. It made it simple for us.

Here are five practical approaches to being a better representative of the gospel.

Represents Jesus in the best possible way
Or, in the words of my pastor, "Don't make Jesus look like an idiot." Try to remember that you are the face of Jesus for the world.

As followers of Christ, the quality of our testimony to the world has eternal implications. Unfortunately, Jesus has been poorly represented by many of his followers. I'm not saying I'm the perfect follower of Jesus, I'm not. But if we (those who follow the teachings of Jesus) could represent it authentically, the term "Christian" or "follower of Christ" would be more likely to abuse a positive response than a negative one.

Be a friend showing love
Jesus was a close friend of tax collectors such as Matthew and Zacchaeus. He was called "Friend of sinners" in Matthew 11:19. If we are his followers, we should be accused of also being friends with sinners.

Jesus taught us how to share the gospel by showing our love for others in John 13: 34-35:

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. " (NIV)
Jesus did not quarrel with people. Our heated debates are unlikely to attract anyone to the kingdom. Titus 3: 9 says: "But avoid silly controversies and genealogies and arguments and controversies about the law, because they are useless and useless." (NIV)

If we follow the path of love, we unite with unstoppable strength. This passage is a good example of being a better witness simply by showing love:

Now, regarding your mutual love, we don't need to write to you, because you have been taught by God to love yourself. And indeed, you love the whole family of God in Macedonia. However, we invite you, brothers and sisters, to do more and more and make your ambition to lead a peaceful life: you should take care of your business and work with your own hands, just like we told you, so that your daily life life can win respect for strangers and so as not to depend on anyone. (1 Thessalonians 4: 9-12, NIV)

Be a good, kind and divine example
When we spend time in the presence of Jesus, his character will be erased from us. With his Holy Spirit working in us, we can forgive our enemies and love those who hate us, just as our Lord did. By his grace we can be good examples for those outside the kingdom who are observing our lives.

The apostle Peter recommended: "Live such a beautiful life among pagans that although they accuse you of doing something wrong, they can see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us" (1 Peter 2:12 , NIV)

The apostle Paul taught the young Timothy: "And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind to everyone, capable of teaching, not resentful". (2 Timothy 2:24, NIV)

One of the best examples in the Bible of a faithful believer who has won the respect of pagan kings is the prophet Daniel:

Now Daniel distinguished himself so much from administrators and satraps for his exceptional qualities that the king planned to put him on the whole kingdom. At this point, the administrators and satraps tried to find reasons for accusations against Daniel in his conduct in government affairs, but were unable to do so. They could not find corruption in him because he was reliable and neither corrupt nor negligent. Eventually these men said, "We will never find any basis for accusations against this man, Daniel, unless it has something to do with the law of his God." (Daniel 6: 3-5, NIV)
Submit to Authority and obey God
Romans chapter 13 teaches us that rebelling against authority is the same as rebelling against God. If you don't believe me, go ahead and read Romans 13 now. Yes, the passage even tells us to pay our taxes. The only time we are allowed to disobey authority is when to submit to that authority means that we will disobey God.

The story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego tells of three young Jewish prisoners who were determined to worship and obey God above all others. When King Nebuchadnezzar ordered the people to fall and worship a golden image he had built, these three men refused. They bravely stopped before the king who urged them to deny God or face death in a fiery furnace.

When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose to obey God above the king, they did not know for sure that God would save them from the flames, but they remained still. And God freed them, miraculously.

Consequently, the wicked king declared:

“Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent his angel and saved his servants! They trusted him and challenged the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego is cut into pieces and their houses are transformed into piles of rubble, since no other god can save in this way. "The king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to high positions in Babylon (Daniel 3: 28-30)
God opened a huge door of opportunity through the obedience of his three courageous servants. What a powerful testimony of the power of God for Nebuchadnezzar and the people of Babylon.

Pray for God to open a door
In our enthusiasm to be witnesses of Christ, we often run before God. We may see what seems like an open door to sharing the Gospel, but if we enter without dedicating time to prayer, our efforts can be futile or even counterproductive.

Only by seeking the Lord in prayer are we led through the doors that only God can open. Only with prayer will our testimony have the desired effect. The great apostle Paul knew a thing or two about effective testimony. He gave us this reliable advice:

Dedicate yourself to prayer, being alert and grateful. And pray also for us so that God can open a door for our message, so that we can proclaim the mystery of Christ, for whom they are in chains. (Colossians 4: 2-3, NIV)
More practical ways to share your faith by being an example
Karen Wolff of Christian-Books-For-Women.com shares some practical ways to share our faith simply by being an example for Christ.

People can spot a fake one mile away. The absolute worst thing you can do is say one thing and do another. If you don't commit to applying Christian principles in your life, not only will you be ineffective, but you will be seen as false and false. People are not as interested in what you say, as they are in seeing how it works in your life.
One of the best ways to share your faith is to demonstrate the things you believe in by staying positive and having a good attitude even in the midst of a crisis in your life. Do you remember the story in the Bible of Peter walking on the water when Jesus called him? He kept walking on the water until he concentrated on Jesus. But once he concentrated on the storm, he sank.
When people around you see peace in your life, especially when it seems that you are surrounded by storms, you can bet that they will want to know how to get what you have! On the other hand, if all they see is the top of the head as you sink into the water, there is not much to ask.
Treat people with respect and dignity, regardless of circumstances. Whenever you have the opportunity, show how you don't change the way you treat people, no matter what happens. Jesus treated people well, even when they mistreated him. People around you will wonder how you are able to show this kind of respect for others. You never know, they might even ask.
Find ways to be a blessing to others. Not only does this plant incredible seeds for a crop in your life, it shows others that you are not a fake. Show that you live what you believe. To say that you are a Christian is one thing, but living it in tangible ways every day is something else. The Word says: "They will know them by their fruit."
Don't compromise your beliefs. Every day there are situations where compromise is not only possible, but is expected many times. Show people that your Christianity means living a life of integrity. And oh yes, that means you tell the sales guy when he dumped you for that liter of milk!
The ability to quickly forgive is a very powerful way to show how Christianity really works. Become a model of forgiveness. Nothing creates division, hostility and turmoil more than a reluctance to forgive people who hurt you. Of course, there will be times when you are absolutely right. But being right doesn't give you a free pass to punish, humiliate or embarrass someone else. And it certainly does not eliminate your responsibility to forgive.
