How can we thank our Guardian Angels for the help they give us?

What is a Guardian Angel?

A guardian angel is an angel (a created, non-human, non-corporeal being) who has been assigned to protect a particular person, especially to help that person avoid spiritual dangers and achieve salvation.

The angel can also help the person to avoid physical dangers, particularly if this will help the person to achieve salvation.

How can we thank them for the help they give us?

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments explained:

Devotion to the Holy Angels gives rise to a certain form of Christian life characterized by:

devoted gratitude to God for placing these heavenly spirits of great holiness and dignity at the service of man;
an attitude of devotion deriving from the knowledge of living constantly in the presence of the Holy Angels of God; - serenity and confidence in facing difficult situations, since the Lord guides and protects the faithful in the way of justice through the ministry of His Holy Angels. Among the prayers for the Guardian Angels, the Angele Dei is particularly popular, and is often recited by families at morning and evening prayers, or at the recitation of the Angelus.

PRAYERS TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL

How much reverence I must, knowing that you are everywhere and always close to me! With how much gratitude I have to thank you for the love you have for me, what and how much confidence to know you my assistant and defender! Teach me, Holy Angel, correct me, protect me, guard me and guide me for the right and safe path to the Holy City of God. Do not allow me to do things that offend your holiness and your purity. Present my desires to the Lord, offer him my prayers, show him my miseries and implore me the remedy for them by his infinite goodness and by the maternal intercession of Mary Most Holy, your Queen. Watch when I sleep, support me when I am tired, support me when I am about to fall, stand me when I have fallen, show me the way when I am lost, heartened when I lose heart, illuminate me when I do not see, defend me when I am fighting and especially on the last day of my life, shield me from the devil. Thanks to your defense and your guide, finally obtain me to enter your glorious home, where for all eternity I can express my gratitude and glorify with you the Lord and the Virgin Mary, yours and my Queen. Amen.
