How did Jesus treat women?

Jesus showed special attention to women, just to correct an imbalance. More than his speeches, his actions speak for themselves. They are exemplary for American pastor Doug Clark. In an online article, the latter argues: “Women have been mistreated and humiliated. But Jesus is the perfect man, the man whom God wants to set as an example for everyone. Women found in him what they would have liked to find in any man ”.

Sensitive to their discomfort

Many of Jesus' healing miracles were directed at women. Specifically, he restored a woman with a loss of blood. In addition to physical weakness, he had to endure psychological distress for twelve years. In fact, Jewish law states that when they are indisposed, women should stay away. In her book Jesus, the Different Man, Gina Karssen explains: “This woman is unable to lead a normal social life. He cannot even visit his neighbors or family members, because everything he touches is ritually impure ”. But she has heard of Jesus' miracles. With the energy of despair, she touches his robe and is immediately healed. Jesus could have reproached her for contaminating her and forcing him to speak to her in public, which was improper. On the contrary, it frees her from any reproach: “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace ”(Lk 8,48:XNUMX).

Without prejudice to a woman stigmatized by society

By letting a prostitute touch and wash his feet, Jesus goes against many prohibitions. He doesn't reject her like any man would. He will also highlight this at the expense of his guest of the day: a Pharisee, a member of the majority religious party. He is in fact touched by the great love that this woman has for him, by her sincerity and by her act of contrition: “Do you see this woman? I entered your house and you did not give me water to wash my feet; but he wet them with his tears and dried them with his hair. For this, I tell you, his many sins have been forgiven "(Lk 7,44: 47-XNUMX).

His Resurrection is first announced by women

The founding event of the Christian faith gives a new sign of the value of women in the eyes of Jesus. The responsibility of announcing his resurrection to the disciples was entrusted to women. As if to reward them for their love and their fidelity to Christ, the angels who guard the empty tomb entrust the women with a mission: "Go and tell his disciples and Peter that he will precede you to Galilee: it is there that you will see him, as he said "(Mk 16,7)
