How a girl saved her father from Purgatory: "Now go up to heaven!"

In 17th century a girl managed to free her father, holding three Masses for her soul. The story is contained in the book 'The Eucharistic Miracles of the World' and was reported by father Mark Gorin of the parish of Santa Maria in Ottawa, in Canada.

As told by the priest, the case happened to Montserrat, in Spain and has been attested by the Church. The girl had a vision of her father in Purgatorio and asked for help from a group of Benedictine monks.

“While a meeting was taking place between the monks, a mother came with her daughter to the monastery. Her husband - the girl's father - had died and it was revealed to her that the parent was in Purgatory and needed three masses to be released. The girl then begged the abbot to offer three masses for her father, ”the priest said.

Father Goring continued: “The good abbot, moved by the girl's tears, celebrated the first mass. She was there and, during mass, she said she saw her father kneeling, surrounded by frightening flames on the step of the high altar during the consecration ”.

“Father General, to understand if her story was true, asked the girl to put a handkerchief near the flames surrounding her father. At his request, the girl put the handkerchief on the fire, which only she could see. Immediately all the monks saw the scarf catch fire. The next day they offered a second Mass and during it he saw the father dressed in a brightly colored suit, standing next to the deacon ”.

“During the third mass offered, the girl saw her father in a snow-white robe. As soon as the Mass was over, the girl exclaimed: 'Here is my father leaving, going up to heaven!' ”.

According to Father Goring, the vision "indicates the reality of purgatory and also the offering of masses for the dead". According to the Church, Purgatory is the place of final purification for those who have died in God but still need purification to reach Heaven.
