EU Commission withdraws guidelines for greetings, except for 'Merry Christmas'

La Europe Commissiona announced the withdrawal of the guidelines on language, which have provoked criticism and an outcry from various quarters because they advise against the use of a series of usual expressions, including "Buon Natale".

In a statement, the Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli defines the document containing these guidelines as "inadequate for the intended purpose" and "not mature", as well as below the standards required by the Commission.

Among the recommendations of the document promoted and then withdrawn, the preference given to wishes for happy holidays rather than the classic Merry Christmas, evidently considered a partial expression of Christian culture.

Reaction of Tajani and Salvini

Antonio Tajani, president of the AFCO Commission of the European Parliament, stated on Twitter: “Thanks also to the action of Forza Italia, the European Commission withdraws the guidelines on inclusive language which asked to remove references to holidays and Christian names. Long live Christmas! Long live the Europe of common sense ”.

Matteo Salvini, leader of the League, on Instagram: “Thanks to the thousands of people who reacted and led to the withdrawal of this filth. We will continue to monitor, thank you! Long live Holy Christmas ".

The words of the Italian Arab communities

"Nobody, including Muslims, has asked anyone to change words, customs, and religious and cultural identity and we will never do it": this is underlined by the president of the Arab world community in Italy (Co-mai) and of the Union Euro Mediterranean medical (Umem), Foad Aodi, crushing the EU document.

"Here", added Aodi, "we need and must work on true mutual respect, on policies in favor of integration, a European immigration law and not to change anyone's words, customs or identity to mask the total failure of the European Commission. in immigration, integration and reception policies ".

"We continue to wish Merry Christmas and celebrate Christmas all together as we have been doing for years in Italy, in Europe and for centuries in Palestine among Muslims, Christians, Orthodox and Jews", assured the number one of Co-mai, "the politics he must do his duty and the people more, I have the impression and the certainty that people are far ahead of politics ”.
