Christians persecuted in Mozambique, children also beheaded by Islamists

Various organizations are expressing their concern at the high level of violence that has been unleashed in Mozambique, especially against Christians and young children, asking the international community to act.

The situation a Cabo delgado, in northern Mozambique, has deteriorated terribly over the past year.

As reported on BibliaTodo.com, some 3.000 people have lost their lives, while another 800 have been displaced due to the growing violence that has been unleashed since the end of 2017.

The constant and strong attacks by Islamic terrorists in Cabo Delgado have resulted in approximately 2.838 deaths, although the actual number is speculated to be much higher.

Save the Children, International plan e World Vision recently released a report highlighting how worrying the situation in Cabo Delgado, which has worsened over the past 12 months, is and how children suffer from it.

Amy Lamb, director of communications for Open Doors, noted that the escalation of violence in Mozambique has had devastating results.

According to Lamb, Mozambique was included for the first time in the well-known World Watch List, ranking among the countries with high levels of persecution, due to radical jihadist terrorists.

In March, an attack on the city of Palma, located in northeastern Mozambique, caused the flight of about 67 people.

Once again, children were also affected, many of whom were orphaned or left without their parents on the run.

17 million Christians live in this nation, representing over 50% of the total population. In this regard, Lamb commented that the country is home to one of the "fastest growing evangelical populations on the planet".

"Due to the rise of Christianity, we are witnessing the violence of many jihadist groups, including those affiliated with the Islamic State, al Shabab, Boko Haram, al Qaeda," explained the director of communications.

Lamb pointed out that the main thinking of these terrorist groups is to expand violence to end the Christian faith.

"Their goal is to eradicate Christianity from this territory and, unfortunately, in a certain sense, it is working".

Last March, members of the United States military visited Mozambique to train the nation's marines to counter the violence, which reached an unimaginable point with the beheading of children under the age of 12.
