Devotion to Jesus: The prayer revealed by Him to obtain a grace

While in the course of his Passion Jesus suffered various wounds, such as those from the crown of thorns and from the flagellation of the pillar. Medieval popular devotion concentrated on the five wounds associated directly with the crucifixion of Christ, namely the nail wounds on the hands and feet and the spear wound that pierced his side.

The awakening of religious life and the zealous activity of Bernardo di Chiaravalle and Francesco d'Assisi in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, together with the enthusiasm of the crusaders returning from the Holy Land, gave rise to devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ.

Many medieval prayers in honor of the Sacred Wounds, including some attributed to Clare of Assisi, have been preserved. Saint Mechtilde and Saint Gertrude of Helfta were devoted to the Sacred Wounds, the latter saint reciting every day a prayer in honor of the wounds 5466, which, according to a medieval tradition, were inflicted on Jesus during his Passion. In the 5475th century it was customary in southern Germany to recite fifteen Pater Nosters every day (which therefore amounted to XNUMX over the course of a year) in memory of the Holy Wounds.

There was in the Medieval Missals a special Mass in honor of the Plagues of Christ, known as the Golden Mass, During its celebration five candles were always lit and it was popular that if someone were to say or hear it for five consecutive days it should never suffer the pains of hell.

The Dominican Rosary also helped to promote devotion to the Holy Wounds, since while the fifty small pearls refer to Mary, the five large pearls and the corresponding noble pantees are intended to honor the Five Wounds of Christ. Again, in some places it was customary to ring a bell at noon on Friday, to remind the faithful to recite five Patri and Aves in honor of the Holy Wounds.

The 13 promises of Our Lord to those who recite this crown, transmitted by Sister Maria Marta Chambon.

1) “I will accord everything that is asked of Me by invoking My holy wounds. We must spread its devotion ”.
2) "In truth this prayer is not of the earth, but of heaven ... and can obtain everything".

How to recite the chaplet on the Holy Wounds

It is recited using a common crown of the Holy Rosary and begins with the following prayers:

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

O God, come save me. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father…,

I believe in God, Almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; descended into hell; on the third day he rose from the dead; he went up to heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Almighty Father; from there he will judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the remission of sins, the resurrection of the flesh, eternal life. Amen

1) O Jesus, divine Redeemer, have mercy on us and the whole world. Amen

2) Holy God, strong God, immortal God, have mercy on us and the whole world. Amen

3) Grace and mercy, O my God, in the present dangers, cover us with your most precious blood. Amen

4) O Eternal Father, use us mercy for the Blood of Jesus Christ your only Son,

use us mercy; we beseech you. Amen.

On the grains of our Father we pray:

Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ,
to heal those of our souls.

On the grains of the Ave Maria please:

My Jesus forgiveness and mercy, for the merits of Your holy wounds.

In the end it is repeated 3 times:

"Eternal Father, I offer you the wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ,
to heal those of our souls ”.
