The Rosary contains two elements: mental prayer and vocal prayer. The mental consists in the meditation of the main mysteries of the life, death and glory of Jesus Christ and his most holy Mother. The vowel consists in saying fifteen tens of Ave Maria, each preceded by a Pater, meditating and contemplating at the same time the fifteen main virtues practiced by Jesus and Mary in the fifteen mysteries of the holy Rosary.
In the first part of five dozen, the five joyful mysteries are honored and considered; in the second the five painful mysteries; in the third the five glorious mysteries. In this way the Rosary is composed of vocal prayers and meditation to honor and imitate the mysteries and virtues of the life, passion and death and glory of Jesus Christ and Mary.

The holy Rosary, being substantially composed of the prayer of Christ Jesus and the angelic salutation - the Pater and the Ave - and of the meditation on the mysteries of Jesus and Mary, is undoubtedly the first and main devotion in use among the faithful, from the time of the Apostles and of the first disciples, from century to century it has come down to us.

However, in the form and method in which he is currently recited, he was inspired by the Church and suggested by the Virgin to Saint Dominic to convert the Albigensians and sinners, only in 1214, in the way I am about to say, as blessed Alano of the Rupe in his famous book De Dignitate psalterii.
St Dominic, finding that men's sins were an obstacle to the conversion of the Albigensians, retired to a forest near Toulouse and stayed there for three days and three nights in constant prayer and penance. And such were his moans and his tears, his penance with strokes of discipline to appease the wrath of God who fell unconscious. The Holy Virgin then appeared to him accompanied by three princesses from heaven and said to him: “You know, dear Domenico, what weapon the SS. Trinity to reform the world? " - "My lady - he replied - you know it better than me: after your son Jesus you were the main instrument of our salvation". She added: “Know that the most effective weapon has been the angelic Psalter, which is the foundation of the New Covenant; therefore if you want to conquer those hardened hearts to God, preach my psaltery ”.
The saint found himself consoled and ardent with zeal for the salvation of those populations, he went to the cathedral of Toulouse. Immediately the bells, moved by the angels, rang out to gather the inhabitants. At the beginning of his sermon, a furious storm broke out; the ground jumped, the sun darkened, continuous thunder and lightning made the whole audience pale and tremble. Their fear grew when they saw an effigy of the Virgin, exposed in a clearly visible place, raise her arms to heaven three times and ask for God's revenge on them if they did not convert and did not resort to the protection of the holy Mother of God. This prodigy of heaven infused the highest esteem for the new devotion of the Rosary and extended his knowledge.
The storm finally stopped for the prayers of Saint Dominic, who continued the speech by explaining the excellence of the Holy Rosary with such fervor and efficacy that it induced almost all the inhabitants of Toulouse to embrace the practice and renounce their mistakes. In a short time a great change of customs and life was noticed in the city.
