Devotion of the day: consecrate this new year to God

It is a gift from God. God, inexhaustible in his goodness, although by no means obligated, gives it to me who are perhaps the most unworthy to obtain it. A father who sees his son abusing his goodness, changes the system, God sees how many years we have already spent badly, indeed perhaps he foresees the abuse of this year itself, yet he gives it to us. What do you think about it? Will you always want to be ungrateful to him? Will you also waste this new year on petty vanities?

It is one more report. Every grace received will weigh on the divine balance. The months, days, hours, minutes of the new year will appear in the judgment before me, and will be a source of joy, if spent well; but if it has passed badly or in vain, as many years have passed, I will have to make a rigorous account of it.

How to sanctify it. Promise to lessen your faults and to grow for good. The Imitation of Christ says: If every year you corrected at least one defect, how soon you would be holy! In the past we have not done this: this year we are targeting only one sin, one vice, and let's eradicate it. Jesus orders: Estote perfecti (Matth. V, 48); but before we are perfect, how many steps we still have to climb! We propose to do at least one thing better, a practice of piety, a devotion.

PRACTICE. - Offer to God all the moments of this year by consecrating them to his glory, and repeating them often throughout the day; All for you, my God
