Devotion of the day: being a heavenly soul with Mary

Detachment of Mary from the earth. We are not made for this world; we hardly touch the ground with our feet; Heaven is our homeland, our rest. Mary Immaculate, not dazzled by earthly appearances, despised the mud of the earth, and lived poor, although she kept at home, obedient Son, the Creator of all riches. God, Jesus: here is the treasure of Mary; to see, love, serve Jesus: this is Mary's desire… Wasn't it a heavenly life in the midst of the world?

Are we earthly or heavenly? Whoever loves and seeks the earth becomes earthly, says St. Augustine; whoever loves God and Heaven becomes heavenly. And what do I want, what do I love? Don't I feel too much attack on what little I have? Am I not trembling for fear of losing him? Am I not trying to increase it? Don't I envy other people's stuff? Don't I complain about my condition? ... Do I gladly give alms? The disinterested person is very rare! So you are an earthly soul ... But what will it benefit you for eternal life?

The heavenly soul, with Mary. Why worry about this world that is fleeing, about this land that we will have to leave tomorrow? At the point of death, what will console us most, being rich or being holy? Will not an act of God's love be worth more than the riches of a throne? Sursum corda, let us raise ourselves to God, let us seek him, his glory, his love. This is imitating Mary and becoming heavenly. We learn to say: All as God empty.
