Devotion of the day: inability to thank God

Inability to thank God. The Lord does not owe anyone anything; and if he, for all his goodness, grants you even one benefit, will you be able to thank him worthily? eternity, although you had as many tongues as there are arenas of the sea, it would not be enough to give him sufficient thanks. O Father, forgive me the debt: I am not able to satisfy it. Deo gratias, the Saints repeated, especially Cottolengo.

Remission of sins. After so many sins you fall into every day, can you still hope for forgiveness? Will God forgive you the enormous debt that, without the price of the Blood of Jesus, you could never satisfy? Trust: Jesus himself makes you say every moment: Forgive our debts, because he longs to forgive you. But perhaps you abuse such ease to sin more! Maybe you believe God careless of your sins! Be converted: if not, you will see him as a terrible judge.

Remission of the penalty of sins. The enormity of the debt of the punishment that follows the guilt, can only be understood by those who groan in Purgatory or in Hell, where everything must be paid for with punishing fire! A little penance seems a great thing to you, and you may rarely practice any mortification; but what is that compared to what you owe? Heartily pray the Father to forgive you this debt of punishment; and think that, to satisfy for you, Jesus wanted to sacrifice his life on a cross.

PRACTICE. Practice a penance; recites five Pater.
