Devotion of the day: temptation allowed by God

God allows temptations. 1 ° Because he wants our salvation to depend on us too; and this would not be possible without the temptations that form the battlefield, where it is in our power to win or be defeated. 2 ° Because they are useful to us, being able to derive merits of humility, confidence and victory over temptations. 3 ° Because it is fitting that the crown be granted to whoever fights and wins. And you murmur against God?

Don't lead us. Meditate that, with this word, you must not ask to go free from any temptation: this would be to pray in vain, while before you have already said: "Your will be done"; besides that it would be the prayer of a little valiant soldier fleeing the fight, and it would be harmful to you in the acquisition of merit. You only have to ask, whether or not he will allow the temptation he predicts you will fall into, or by allowing it, give you the grace not to consent. Don't you mistrust God in temptations?

Voluntary temptations. What is the use of praying to the Lord not to lead you into temptation, if you are looking for them out of curiosity, whim, as a pastime? Who feels sorry for those who go to tease the crawl space? If you put yourself on the occasion or by obligation of office or by disposition of obedience or by law of charity, do not fear, God is with you: Judith overcame Holofernes. But woe to you if you pretend to stand by the fire, and not burn!… It is written: You will not tempt God your Lord. Did you escape the dangers?

PRACTICE. - Examine if that person, that place, is not a voluntary temptation for you ... Cut it off soon.
