Devotion of the day: reasons for humility

Our sins. Meditate on how true the words of the prophet Micah are, that humiliation is in the center of your heart, in your midst. First of all, your sins humiliate you. Consider how many you have committed with thoughts, words, deeds and omissions: in public and in private: against all the commandments: in church, at home: during the day, at night: as a child, as an adult: no day without sins! After this observation, can you still be proud? What a great thing you are!, .- Not even one day can you go through perfect… indeed, maybe not even an hour…!

Our little virtue. After so many repeated promises to the Lord, where is your constancy? In “so many years of life, of help, of internal stimuli, of exhortations, of singular graces, where is your charity, patience, resignation, fervor, love of God? Where are the merits earned? Can we boast of being saints? Yet, at our age, how many souls were already holy!

Our misery. What are you about the body? Dust and ash. Hidden in the tomb your body, who remembers you most after a short time? What is your life? Fragile like reed, just a breath, and you die. With your skill, and that of all the most distinguished scientists, are you capable of creating a grain of dust, a blade of grass? To plumb the depths of the human heart? How small you are compared to the world and Heaven, at the feet of God ... You crawl almost like a worm in the dust, and pretend to be great? Learn to hold yourself for who you are; a nothing.

PRACTICE. - Sometimes he bows his head, saying: Remember that you are dust.
