Devotion of the day: getting ready before Communion

The purity of the soul is required. Whoever eats Jesus unworthily eats his condemnation, says St. Paul. It is not presumption to approach it frequently, writes Chrysostom; but communion unworthily. Woe to the imitators of Judas! To receive Communion, cleanliness from mortal sin is necessary; to receive it frequently, the Church requires, in addition to the state of grace, the right intention. Did you fulfill these conditions? Do you want daily Communion?

Recollection is required. Not that involuntary distractions make Communion bad, but it is in meditation that the soul understands who is that Jesus who descends into our hearts, and the Faith awakens; we think about the need we have for God, and Hope arises; we see our unworthiness, whence humility is born; the goodness of Jesus is admired, and desire, gratitude, devotion of the heart arise. How do you prepare yourself for Communion? Are you taking enough time?

Fervor and love are required. The more fervent the Communion, the greater the fruit of it becomes. How to be lukewarm, while Jesus comes into you all zeal for your salvation, all fire of charity for you? If Jesus shows Himself so good that He does not disdain you, on the contrary He comes into you, although poor and sinful, how can you not love Him? How will you not burn with love for him? What is your fervor in Communions?

PRACTICE. - Do some testing on the way you communicate.
