Devotion of the day: let's reflect on little sins

The world calls them trifles. Not only the bad ones who, accustomed to sin, live without so many scruples, as they say; but the good ones themselves with what ease excuse and allow themselves small deliberate sins! They call lies, impatience, petty transgressions trifles; trifles and melancholies to beware of small malice, from murmuring, from distractions ... What do you call them? How do you look at it?

Jesus condemns them as sins. A transgression of the law, albeit small, but of deliberate will, cannot be indifferent to God. Author of the law, who requires its perfect observance. Jesus condemned the bad intentions of the Pharisees; Jesus said: Judge not, and you will not be judged; even with an idle word you will account for the Judgment. Who should we believe in, the world or Jesus? You will see on God's scales if they were trifles, scruples, melancholies.

They do not enter Heaven. It is written that nothing stained goes up there. Although they are small, and God does not condemn small sins to Hell, we, plunged into Purgatory, will stay there as long as the last bit subsists, among those flames, among those pains, among those scorching pains; what count will we then count on small sins? My soul, reflect that Purgatory will be your turn, and who knows for how long ... And do you want to continue to sin? And will you still say trifles a sin punished by God so severely?

PRACTICE. - Make an act of sincere contrition; propose avoiding willful sins.
