Today's devotion: Santa Filomena oil, a drug to have graces

DEVOTIONS IN HONOR OF SANTA FILOMENA

SANTA FILOMENA OIL
How did this devotion arise? It is very simple to answer: in the octave of the translation of the Relics of S. Filomena in Mugnano, a woman from Avella, full of faith in God, dipped a finger in the oil of the lamp that burned before the altar of the Saint and anointed her eyelids of his blind child who immediately regained his sight to the amazement of those present.

It was from that moment that the Santa Filomena lamp oil has always been considered a wonderful drug for any kind of disease. The graces obtained by this means have never ceased.

Devotion of the three "Creeds", suggested by S. Filomena to Sr. M. Luisa di Gesù
(Prayer composed by the aforementioned Sister).

1) I greet you, Philomena, Virgin and Martyr of Jesus Christ, and I implore you to pray to God for the righteous, so that they may remain in their justice and grow every day of virtue in virtue. I think…

2) I greet you, Philomena, Virgin and Martyr of Jesus Christ, and I implore you to pray to God for sinners, so that they may convert and live the life of grace. I think…

3) I greet you, Philomena, Virgin and Martyr of Jesus Christ, and I implore you to pray to God for heretics and infidels, so that they come to the true Church and serve the Lord in Spirit and Truth. I think…

Three Glories ... to the Most Holy Trinity in thanksgiving for the graces granted to this illustrious heroine of the Gospel;

Hello Queen ... to the Virgin of Sorrows to thank you for the admirable fortress that obtained them in the many and cruel martyrs.

THE CORD OF S. FILOMENA
This pious practice born spontaneously among the devotees of the Saint, had the approval of the Congregation of Rites on September 15, 1883, and subsequently on April 4, 1884.

Leo XIII enriched it with precious indulgences.

It consists in carrying around the body a cord of wool, linen or cotton, white or red in color to indicate the virginity and martyrdom of St. Philomena.

Devotion is widely practiced especially abroad to obtain spiritual and corporal graces.

The wearer of the cord is obliged to recite the following prayer every day:

O Holy Filomena Virgin and Martyr, pray for us, that through your powerful intercession we obtain that purity of spirit and heart that leads to the perfect love of God. Amen
