Devotion and prayers to the patron saint of today 18 September 2020

SAINT JOSEPH OF COPERTINO

Copertino (Lecce), June 17, 1603 - Osimo (Ancona), September 18, 1663

Giuseppe Maria Desa was born on 17 June 1603 in Copertino (Lecce) in a barn in the town. The father made wagons. Rejected by some Orders for "his lack of literature" (he had had to drop out of school due to poverty and illness), he was accepted by the Capuchins and discharged for "ineptitude" after a year. Welcomed as a Tertiary and attendant in the convent of Grotella, he managed to be ordained a priest. He had mystical manifestations that continued throughout his life and which, combined with prayers and penance, spread his reputation for holiness. Joseph levitated from the ground for the continuous ecstasies. Thus, by decision of the Holy Office it was transferred from convent to convent up to that of San Francesco in Osimo. Giuseppe da Copertino had the gift of infused science, for which even theologians asked him for opinions and was able to accept suffering with extreme simplicity. He died on 18 September 1663 at the age of 60; he was beatified on February 24, 1753 by Pope Benedict XIV and proclaimed a saint on July 16, 1767 by Pope Clement XIII. (Future)

PRAYER TO SAN GIUSEPPE DA COPERTINO

Here I am now close to examinations, protector of the candidates, Saint Joseph of Copertino. May your intercession make up for my shortcomings in commitment and give me, after having experienced the weight of studying, the joy of enjoying a just promotion. May the Holy Virgin, so caring towards you, deign to look with kindness towards my scholastic effort and bless it, so that, through it, I can reward the sacrifices of my parents and open myself to a more attentive and more qualified service. towards the brothers.

Amen.

STUDENT PRAYER

TO SAN GIUSEPPE DA COPERTINO

O patron saint, you show yourself so liberal to your devotees that you give them everything they ask of you, turn your gaze on me that in the hardships in which I find myself I invoke you to my aid.

For what wonderful love that carried you to God and to the sweet Heart of Jesus, for that ardent commitment with which you venerated the Virgin Mary, I pray and beg you to help me in the next school exam.

See how for a long time I have applied myself with all diligence to the study, nor have I refused any effort, nor spared commitment or diligence; but since I do not trust in myself, but in you alone, I resort to your help, which I dare to hope with a sure heart.

Remember that once upon a time you too, surrounded by such danger, with the singular help of the Virgin Mary came out of it with happy success. You therefore be propitious for me to have him questioned about those points where I am most prepared; and give me wit and quickness of intelligence, preventing fear from invading my soul and clouding my mind.
