Devotion: Trust Jesus on the path of life

By trusting in him, it becomes clear to overcome obstacles and walk paths.

"Because I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, "plans to thrive and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

I love organizing. I find very satisfied with writing to-do lists and checking the articles one by one. I like to buy a new giant desk calendar for our refrigerator so that I can track the days and weeks ahead. At the beginning of each school year, I within the event dates on our shared online calendar so that my husband, Scott, and I can be in sync with each other and see what the kids have going on. I like to know what will happen next.

But no matter how organized I am, things always happen that change those days on the calendar. I organize things based on my understanding, but my understanding is limited. This is true of everyone. Only Jesus can trace our life. It is omniscient. It is the real organizer. We want to write our lives in permanent ink. He takes the pen out of our hands and draws up a different program.

Jesus wants us to trust him in our journey, our plans and our dreams. He has the power to overcome obstacles and the grace to overcome tests, but we must put the pen in his hands. It takes care of making our roads straight. Rule our lives with his mercy and an eye on eternity with him. He will plan a different course to be sure. But when we invite him into the details of our lives, we know that we can trust him because of his overwhelming love for us.

How to do devotion:
look at your calendar. What did you write in permanent ink? Where do you have to trust Jesus? Invite him into the details of your life and ask him to clarify your path.
