Practical devotion to do today 27 July

ETERNAL SALVATION

1. Will I be saved or damned? Terrible thought that decides not of a life, not of a throne, not of a century, but of an eternity, of my perpetual happiness or unhappiness. A few years from now, I will be with the Saints, with the Angels, with Mary, with Jesus, in Heaven amid ineffable enjoyments; or with demons, between the screams and desperations of Hell? A few years of life, passed well or badly, will decide my fate. But if you decide today, what sentence would I have?

2. Can I save myself? Thought of distrust that is of no use. It is of faith that God wants everyone saved. For this purpose Jesus shed his Blood and taught me the means to reach salvation. At every moment the inspirations, the graces, the special aids, give me a sure pledge that God loves me and is committed to saving me. It is up to us to use the means to ensure our salvation. Our fault if we don't. Do you work to save yourself?

3. Am I predestined? Desperation thought that led so many souls to disorder and ruin! For earthly things, for health, for luck, for honors, no one says that fatigue, taking remedies is useless, since what is destiny will hit us equally. Let's avoid thinking if we are, yes or no, predestined; but let us listen to St. Peter who writes: Work hard with good works and make your election certain (II Petr. 1, 10). Do you seem to struggle for this purpose?
