Practical devotion of the day: the sacrifice of the Holy Mass

1. Value of the Holy Mass. Since it is the mystical renewal of Jesus' Sacrifice on the Cross, where he immolates himself and offers again his precious Blood to the Eternal Father for our sins, it follows that the Holy Mass is a good of infinite, immense value. All the virtues, the merits, the martyrs, the respects of a million worlds, do not contain praise, honor and pleasure to God, like a single Mass celebrated by a priest. Do you think about it, that you assist so badly

2. Estimate of the Saints for the Holy Mass. St. Thomas Aquinas enjoyed hearing it and even more in serving it. Listening to the Mass was the delight of S. Luigi Gonzaga, S. Stanislao Kostka, Giovanni Bechmans, B. Valfrè, Liguori, who were eager to hear as much of it as they could. Chrysostom admired the Angels around the Altar; at Holy Mass, the Holy Fathers say, the heavens open, the Angels amaze, hell groans, Purgatory opens, a dew of grace falls on the Church. And maybe for you Mass is a bore ...

3. Why are we not attending Holy Mass? It is the most beautiful, most effective prayer; with it the Father's Heart is conquered, and his mercy is made ours, says Sales. The soul, on the day it listens to Holy Mass, cannot get lost, say the authors. Whoever does not attend you when he can, says Bona, is ungrateful to God, oblivious to eternal health and languid in piety. Examine if it is out of carelessness or lukewarmness that you do not attend Mass; and fix it.

PRACTICE. Listen, if you can, every day and well, to the H. Mass.
