Daily devotion: change your thinking

Our lives are full of good and perfect gifts, but often we can't see them because our minds are tuned to our flaws.

Our lives are full of good and perfect gifts, but often we can't see them because our minds are tuned to our flaws.
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift that comes to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in heaven. It never changes or casts a moving shadow. James 1:17 (NLT)

For most of my life I have struggled with feelings of failure. If most of my house was clean, I would worry about the room that wasn't. If I practiced, I would feel guilty about a poor food choice that I made. If my son had problems with a school subject, I would worry about not doing enough as a mom studying at home. And when we adopt children in our family, feelings intensify. Instead of concentrating on everything I was doing well, I would feel burdened with things left in place like chores.

One day a wise friend pointed out: “You feel like you are failing, and during the day you confirm it for what has remained unfinished. Instead, try to focus on what you are doing well and confirm all the things you are doing well. ”This advice changed lives. My attitude has improved and things have become easier. I started to see more clearly the good things that Jesus had brought into my life.

Our lives are full of many good and perfect gifts, but often we cannot see them because our minds are tuned to all our shortcomings. The good news: we can control our minds! Once I started focusing on the goodness of my life, my heart was ready to release frustration. Now, when those feelings arise within me, I try to find something to thank Jesus for. Instead of thinking, "I'm failing," I try to look around and think, "Thanks, Jesus, for all that I am and all I have ". Jesus is faithful. It provides so many good and perfect things in our life, but it takes us to change our mind to remember it!

FAITH STEP: Today every time you are thinking "I'm failing", transform your thoughts. Thanks to Jesus for all he has done in you and through you.
