SAINT PATRICK

Britannia (England), ca 385 - Down (Ulster), 461

Patrizio was born in 385 in Britain to a Christian family. At the age of 16 he was kidnapped and taken a slave to Ireland, where he remained a prisoner for 6 years during which he deepened his life of faith. Escaped from slavery, he returns to his homeland. He spends some time with his parents, then prepares to become a deacon and priest. In these years he probably reaches the continent and experiences monastic experiences in France. In 432, he is back in Ireland. Accompanied by an escort, he preaches, baptizes, confirms, celebrates the Eucharist, orders priests, consecrates monks and virgins. Missionary success is great, but there is no shortage of assaults from enemies and marauders, and not even the malice of Christians. Patrizio then wrote the Confession to reject the accusations and celebrate the love of God who protected and guided him on his dangerous journeys. He dies around 461. He is the patron of Ireland and of the Irish in the world.

PRAYER TO SAN PATRIZIO

Blessed Saint Patrick, glorious Apostle of Ireland, our friend and father, listen to our prayers: ask God to accept the feelings of gratitude and veneration with which our hearts are full. Through you the people of Ireland have inherited a faith so profound that it is held dearer than life. We too join with those who worship you and make you the representative of our thanks and the mediator of our needs with God. May he not despise our poverty and welcome our cry that goes up to Heaven. We ask you to come among us and to manifest your powerful intercession, so that our devotion to you increases and that your name and your memory will be blessed forever. May our hope be animated by the support and intercession of our ancestors who now enjoy eternal bliss: Obtain for us the grace to love God with our whole heart, serve him with all our strength, and persevere in good intentions to the end. O faithful shepherd of the flock of Ireland, who would have consumed your life a thousand times to save one soul, take our souls, and the souls of our loved ones under your special care. Be a father for the Church of God and for our parish community and make our hearts share the blessed fruits of that Gospel that you planted and watered with your mission. Give us to learn to consecrate all that we are, what we have and what we do to the glory of God. We entrust you with our parish dedicated to you; please protect her and guide her shepherds, give them the grace to walk in your footsteps and to nourish the flock of God with the Word of life and the Bread of salvation so that all of us together with the Virgin Mary and the saints come into possession of that glory that we will enjoy with you in the kingdom of the Blessed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen

3 glory to the Father.
