Two kinds of carnival, that of God and that of the devil: who do you belong to?

1. The carnival of the devil. See how carefree in the world: revelry, theaters, dances, cinemas, unbridled amusements. Is it not the time when the devil, smiling, goes around looking for who to damn, tempting souls, accumulating sins? Carnival is not the triumph of the devil? How many souls are lost in these days! How many offenses against God do not multiply! Maybe you too let yourself go because it's carnival. Do you think the devil laughs, but Jesus feels his heart pierced! ...

2. The carnival of God. If there is a spark of love in you, can you see the lost souls impassively, Jesus offended, abandoned, blasphemed, despised, and do nothing for the souls and for Jesus? The Saints, in these days, used to mortify themselves, increase prayers, flee the world and multiply visits to the Sacrament. Such acts comfort Jesus, appease him, disarm him; and what are you doing?

3. What class do you belong to? Are you worldly? Feel free, follow as you wish; but if from fun I went to hell, what would become of you? - Are you a practitioner? Continue, indeed progress, remembering St. Philip, the Blessed Mary of the Angels, and other zealous saints to compensate Jesus. - Are you swinging between devotion and pleasures? Remember that two masters cannot be served.

PRACTICE. - Choose some penance to practice throughout the carnival.
