Is it lawful for a Christian to have their body tattooed? What does the Catholic Church think?

Tattoos have very ancient origins and the choice of tattooing is motivated, more often than not, by very strong psychological reasons, so much so that we can speak of a real "tattoo psychology". At the base of the tattoo there may be the will to communicate to the world that you have entered a new phase of life. What's behind this need? Tattooing is a very ancient practice, and when it first emerged, man was considered different. Today tattooing has become a mass phenomenon, in fact there are many people who are not happy and happy with their image and, for this reason, they go in search of new ways to feel better about themselves and be accepted by others. There are many aspects that push a man to get a tattoo such as the psychological ones, the aesthetic ones, those related to the search for his own identity and communication but, one of the most common reasons remains that of wanting to express sides of one's being that otherwise would remain hidden. According to the Lord's teaching, "our" body does not belong to us, it is not really ours, but belongs to God and has been entrusted to us in order to then return it together with the spirit.

On the basis of how we have used it, we will play the possibility of eternal life. God told us “You will not make cuts in the flesh for a dead person, nor will you get tattoos on yourself. I am the Lord. God continues to give righteous teachings with the aim of helping man to get out of depravity and disfigurement and find life and eternal salvation in Him. Strangely, Jesus also bears signs on his body but they are those of the cross, they are signs of human cruelty. At the same time, He offered His life by paying in place of man all his disobedience to raise him from his extreme condition. By listening to Jesus we arrive at the majesty of heaven. One of the most extraordinary things about welcoming God into our hearts is that He distances us from all those useless things that seem indispensable to us to feel good about ourselves.
