Spiritual exercises: face the struggles of life

We encounter many struggles in life. The question is, "What are you doing with them?" Too often, when struggles come, we are tempted to doubt the presence of God and to doubt his merciful help. In fact, the opposite is true. God is the answer to every struggle. Only he is the source of everything we need in life. It is He who can bring peace and serenity to our soul in the midst of every challenge or crisis that we can face (See Diary n. 247).

How do you deal with struggles, especially those that turn into crisis? How do you manage daily stress and anxiety, problems and challenges, worries and failures? How do you manage your sins and also the sins of others? These, and many other aspects of our lives, can tempt us to abandon total trust in God and make us doubt. Think about how you handle daily struggles and adversities. Are you sure every day that our merciful Lord is there for you as a source of peace and serenity in the middle of a turbulent ocean? Make an act of trust in Him on this day and watch as it brings calm in every storm.

PRAYER

Lord, only you and you can bring peace to my soul. When I am tempted by the difficulties of this day, help me to turn to you in perfect confidence by placing all my worries. Help me never to get away from you in my despair, but to know with certainty that you are always there and you are the One to whom I must turn. I trust you, my Lord, I trust you. Jesus, I trust you.

EXERCISE: WHEN ENCOUNTERING AN ADVERSITY, A PROBLEM, LOOK FOR THE SOLUTION IN THE FAITH, IN JESUS AND NOT IN THE ANGER OR THE CONFIDENCE. YOU WILL GIVE GOD FIRST IN YOUR EXISTENCE AND FROM THIS PRIORITY YOU WILL SPEND THE REST OF YOUR EXISTENCE.
