Spiritual exercises: exercise justice through Mercy

Some people, day after day, experience the harshness and cruelty of another. This is quite painful. As a result, there may be a strong desire for justice for the person causing the pain to be held accountable. But the real question is this: what does the Lord call me to do? How should I react? Will I be an instrument of God's wrath and justice? Or should I be an instrument of mercy? The answer is both. The key is to understand that the righteousness of God, in this life, is implemented through His Mercy and through Mercy we show those who offend us. For now, accepting another's darts by virtue is the way to God's righteousness. We grow in patience and strength in the character while living in this virtuous way. Eventually, at the end of time, God will correct every mistake and everything will come to light.

Think about any damage you may have received from another. Think about any word or action that has hit your heart. Try to accept them silently and surrender. Try to unite them with the sufferings of Christ and know that this act of humility and patience on your part will produce the justice of God in his time and on his journey.

PRAYER

Lord, help me forgive. Help me to offer Mercy in the face of every mistake I encounter. May the mercy that you put in my heart be the source of your divine justice. I entrust to you all that I cannot understand in this life and I know that, in the end, you will make all things new in your light. Jesus I believe in you.

EXERCISE: TRY TO BE AT PEACE WITH EVERYONE, TO HAVE PATIENCE AND SUPPORT WITH THE NEXT EVEN WHEN IT IS DIFFICULT. REMEMBER THE DEATH OF JESUS FOR SINERS AND THE TEACHING OF THE LORD TO LOVE NEXT LIKE YOU.
