Trust God: the greatest spiritual secret of life

Have you ever fought and agitated because your life was not going as you wanted? Are you feeling like this now? You want to trust God, but you have legitimate needs and desires.

You know what would make you happy and pray for it with all your might, asking God to help you get it. But if it doesn't, you feel frustrated, disappointed, even bitter.

Sometimes you do get what you want, only to find that it doesn't make you happy after all, just disappointed. Many Christians repeat this cycle throughout their lives, wondering what they are doing wrong. I should know. I was one of them.

The secret lies in "doing"
There is a spiritual secret that can free you from this cycle: trust in God.

"What?" you are asking. “It's not a secret. I've read it dozens of times in the Bible and listened to many sermons. What does secret mean? "

The secret lies in putting this truth into practice, making it such a dominant theme in your life that you see every event, every pain, every prayer with the unshakable belief that God is totally, perfectly reliable.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don't depend on your understanding. Look for his will in everything you do and he will show you which way to go. (Proverbs 3: 5-6, NLT)
Here's where we're wrong. We want to trust in anything rather than in the Lord. We will trust in our abilities, in the judgment of our boss on us, in our money, in our doctor, even in an airline pilot. But the Lord? Well…

It is easy to trust the things we can see. Sure, we believe in God, but to allow him to manage our lives? This is asking a little too much, we think.

Disagree on what really matters
The bottom line is that our desires may not agree with God's desires for us. After all, it's our life, isn't it? Shouldn't we have a say? Shouldn't we be the ones calling the shots? God gave us free will, didn't he?

Advertising and peer pressure tell us what is important: a well-paid career, a car that turns heads, a wonderful home and a spouse or significant other who will make all the other greens of envy.

If we fall in love with the idea of the world of what matters, we get trapped in what I call "The cycle of next time". The new car, relationship, promotion or anything else didn't bring you the happiness you expected, so keep looking, thinking "Maybe next time". But it's a loop that is always the same because you were created for something better and basically you know it.
When you finally reach the point where your head agrees with your heart, you are still hesitant. It is frightening. Trusting in God may require you to abandon all that you have always believed about what brings happiness and contentment.

It requires that you accept the truth that God knows what is best for you. But how do you make that leap from knowing to doing? How do you trust God instead of the world or yourself?

The secret behind this secret
The secret lives within you: the Holy Spirit. Not only will he condemn you for the correctness of trusting the Lord, but he will also help you do so. It is too difficult to do alone.

But when the Father sends the lawyer as my representative - that is, the Holy Spirit - he will teach you everything and remind you of everything I have told you. “I leave you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I make is a gift that the world cannot do. So don't be upset or scared. " (John 14: 26–27 (NLT)

Since the Holy Spirit knows you better than you know yourself, he will give you exactly what you need to make this change. He is infinitely patient, so he will let you test this secret - trusting in the Lord - in small steps. It will take you if you stumble. He will rejoice with you when you are successful.

As a person who has suffered from cancer, death of loved ones, broken relationships and job layoffs, I can tell you that trusting the Lord is a lifelong challenge. In the end you never "arrive." Each new crisis requires a new commitment. The good news is that the more often you see God's loving hand working in your life, the easier this trust becomes.

Have faith in God. Trust in the Lord.
When you trust the Lord, you will feel as if the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders. The pressure is on you now and on God, and it can handle it perfectly.

God will do something beautiful in your life, but he needs your trust in him to do it. You are ready? The time to start is today, right now.
