Jesus wants to heal you and be with you

Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Putting his eyes on his eyes, he put his hands on him and asked, "See anything?" Looking up, the man replied: "I see people who look like trees and walk." Then he placed his hands on the man's eyes a second time and saw clearly; his vision was restored and he could see everything distinctly. Mark 8: 23-25

This story is truly unique for a reason. It is unique because the first time that Jesus tried to cure the blind man it worked only halfway. He could see after Jesus' first attempt to cure his blindness, but what he saw were "people who looked like trees and walked." Jesus used his hands on the man's eyes a second time to be completely healed. Because?

Consistently, in all the Gospels, when Jesus heals someone, this is done as a result of the faith they have and manifest. It is not that Jesus could not heal someone without faith; rather, it is that this is what he has chosen to do. It made healing conditional on complete faith.

In this story of miracles, the blind man seems to have some confidence, but not much. Consequently, Jesus does something very significant. It allows man to be healed only in part to illustrate his lack of faith. But it also reveals that a little faith can lead to more faith. Once the man was able to see a little, he clearly began to believe it again. And once his faith grew, Jesus imposed it again, completing his healing.

What a great illustration for us! Some people may have complete trust in God in all things. If that is you, then you are truly blessed. But this step is especially for those who have faith, but still struggle. To those who fall into this category, Jesus offers many hopes. The action of healing man twice in a row tells us that Jesus is patient and merciful and will take the little we have and the little we offer and use him the best he can. He will work to transform our little faith so that we can take another step forward towards God and grow in faith.

The same could be said of sin. Sometimes we have imperfect pain for sin and sometimes we sin and we have no pain for it, even if we know it is wrong. If that's you, then try to make at least a small step towards healing forgiveness. At least try to wish that you will grow in the desire to feel sorry. It may be the bare minimum, but Jesus will work with it.

Think about this blind man today. Reflect on this double healing and double conversion to which man undergoes. Know that this is you and that Jesus wants to take another step forward in your faith and repentance for sin.

Lord, thank you for the incredible patience you have with me. I know that my trust in you is weak and must increase. I know that my pain for my sins must also increase. Please, take the little faith that I have and the little pain that I have for my sins and use them to get a step closer to you and your merciful heart. Jesus I believe in you.
