World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, the Church has decided on the date

Sunday 24 July 2022 will be celebrated throughout the universal Church the II World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly.

The news was given by the Vatican press office. The theme chosen by the Holy Father for the occasion - reads the press release - is "in old age they will still bear fruit" and intends to emphasize how grandparents and the elderly are a value and a gift both for society and for ecclesial communities.

"The theme is also an invitation to reconsider and value grandparents and the elderly too often kept on the margins of families, civil and ecclesial communities - continues the note - Their experience of life and faith can, in fact, contribute to building society aware of their roots and capable of dreaming of a more united future. The invitation to listen to the wisdom of the years is also particularly significant in the context of the synodal journey that the Church has undertaken ".

The Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life invites parishes, dioceses, associations and ecclesial communities from all over the world to find ways to celebrate the Day in their own pastoral context and for this it will later make available some special pastoral instruments.
