June, Sacred Heart devotion: meditation day five

June 5 - THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD
- Jesus spoke clearly: Do you love me? keep my commandments. Do you want to save yourself? keep my commandments. From here therefore you cannot escape: to love Jesus and to save you, you must do what he commands: keep his holy commandments. He confirmed them, imposed them, observed them.

You just have to obey. Yes, we must obey. But obedience must be complete; we must observe them all and always. God gave neither five nor seven commandments; he has given ten and it is all the more worth going to hell to transgress one, as to transgress them all. You don't go to jail for so many crimes; just one crime is enough.

- You must always observe them. What does it matter if no one sees? He just sees God. What does it matter if it's carnival time or if it's the day of the party? The Lord did not put a limit on his law and we cannot put it. But note its goodness.

He gives you a yoke that is your luck at the same time. The wings are a burden on the bird, but without the wings it could not fly.

After all, Jesus himself gives you the means to lighten your weight: pray and you will see that the commandments of God will be a light weight for you, a gentle yoke. Now examine yourself before the law of God. He has given you a language: how do you use it? To praise or blaspheme it? To say a word of peace and charity, or to lie, to murmur, to slander, to scandalize your neighbor?

He gave you a heart: do you keep it honest and pure, or are your thoughts, your affections, your desires anything but honest? Do you have hatred in your heart against your neighbor? What respect do you have for your parents, for your superiors, for old people, for other people's stuff?

How do you sanctify the party? Perhaps listening to a Mass, and then abandoning yourself to unnecessary work, to illicit amusements without intervening to other devotions, without listening to the word of God?

Do you find any stains to hide? It's early. Confession awaits you to purify you. So get on your way and continue. It will be the way of love for Jesus. The way to heaven.
